Tweeds your in....
So, tweed, originally associated with wealthy, middle-aged (to old) country folk. God bless them. Is now the must have item for us smog filled gadget-obsessed urban softies.
Lately, walking the streets of London has been a tweed spotters paradise. It has taken the city by storm. I actually stopped a guy on Warren Street the other day to ask were he got his tweed jacket from. Not that I'm a collector mind, but the fascination with this is only making me a big fan. And I can actually remember someone mentioning tweed in University (circa 1999) and I had no idea what it was! I remember the actual conversation. Well, here we are in 2012, I'm loving it and blogging about it.
This is not a fashion blog (i'm still not sure what it is to be honest!), but for the intricate details I can only refer you to the experts. Check out one of my favourite blogs and get the low down on this very preppy essential.
To me the beauty of it, is that it goes with anything, whether its jeans, chinos or formal trousers. The number of variations and combinations are endless. We have included some pics just in case you are still doubters and yet to be converted to the flock.

The tweed jacket and jeans combo seems to be fast becoming the 'Dress Down Friday' alternative in most offices in and around the city.

So as we throw away or, more likely, vacuum pack away those winter coats ...(hopefully soon in the case of old Blighty) this is sure enough the spring-summer must have!
Yes, tweed..........I know.
Gangsters and Bow Ties.....Micheal Kenneth Williams Redefines Black Prep
Now I was a massive fan, in fact, i'm still a massive fan of The Wire. For me, its easily one of the best if not thee best TV series ever made.
As with other big fans, I loved Micheal Kenneth Williams aka Omar Little. Great lines, great character - absolutely ruthless when he used to rob other drug dealers for their stash. You could say, there was a Robin Hood element to his character...rob from the rich drug loads and ....well.... Omar tended to keep the stash to himself.
The scene in the alley with Brother Mouzone (left, watch) is undoubtably one of my favourite TV scenes of all time. (And second has to be the court scene where Omar testifies against Bird and explains why he shot the boy Mike Mike in hIs hideparts - it's worth a repeat- watch). However, any fan of the series would tell you, Omar was not exactly the best dressed 'gangster'/dope thief. After all those episodes dressed in that familiar overcoat, bullet proof vest and black doorag, I can understand how on the fashion side of things, Mr Williams may have found his next project very appealing.
Currently staring in HBO's very succesfull series Boardwalk Empire, Micheal Williams has redefined the Black Prep look. We at the Bemba Team are loving he's weekly catalogue of Preppy outfits and customary bow-tie. The man has also single handedly made the bow-tie uber cool! As Chalky White the bootlegging gangster connection of the lead character - Nucky Thompson - he is kinda.........shall we say ... a preppy version of Omar. Check this out...
